AVON YOUTH LEAGUE U’15 DIV 3 K O CUP RD 1

SUN 24 SEPT 06

ST ALDHELMS ‘B’ 0

FRY CLUB COLTS 1

This was the first of 2 encounters at Creswicke Road, Knowle West in successive weeks as we also have a league match there next Sunday, we went into this Cup game with 3 players unavailable. Fortunately our U14s had a bye in their competition so Danny Curtis And Harry Pople were brought in to provide back up.

At least the pitch and weather conditions were better than our match here last season, and that helped our overall play. We started very strongly, having plenty of possession on a big pitch, but just lacked a good final ball for our 2 forwards Craig Andrews and Charlie Frampton to test the keeper. Michael Payne filled in the middle of defence and was playing very well with his fellow defenders to give the opposition very few chances. Despite getting in behind their defence on a few occasions, we failed to find the back of the net and at half time the score remained at 0-0.

A confident talk at half time and one change in the shape of the team was to prove crucial. Just 2 minutes into the second half the ball was played wide to Harry Pople from Kyle Curtis and his strong run and cross to Craig Andrews was perfect and he fired the ball home to put us 1-0 up. The game now opened up more as St Aldhelms looked for an equaliser but this only helped us to become stronger as Mo Bouaziz and Kyle Curtis in the middle of midfield were beginning to dominate. Chances still came but in the end we were comfortable 1-0 winners.

There were some very good performances today which gave us great team spirit and a tough choice for Man of the Match, but the award today goes to Michael Payne whose heading and tackling helped his team to keep a clean sheet.
